PCT Child Health Clinic

Come and see your Health Visitor at our weekly Community Health Clinics at the Aspire Centre @ Academy, Fridays 10am - 12pm

Call 020 8788 1525 for more details.

The Tudor Lodge Health Visiting Team is based at Tudor Lodge Health Centre, 8C Victoria Drive, SW19 6AE.  We are a team of 11 which includes 7 health visitors, 1 staff nurse, 2 nursery nurses and most importantly Silvia who is our Team assistant.

As health visitors we are registered nurses who have undertaken extra training in community, family and child health.  Part of our role is to help families with babies and young children in the community to keep well and healthy.  We are assisted by nursery nurses who have completed a 2-year training course specializing in child development and behaviour and we are also in regular contact with all the local Southfields GPs.

You will generally first meet a member of your health visiting team at around 10 - 14 days after you have had your baby.  We will visit you in your home to introduce the service to youand then plan to see you in one of our 3 baby clinics, across the Southfields area. We run our Walk in ‘Well Baby Clinic’ at the Aspire Centre on a Friday morning between 10am-12pm. Parents can bring their babies along to weigh and to chat to one of the three team members, should they have any queries about their child’s health, development or behaviour.

We provide other clinics on Tuesday afternoons between 1.30pm-3.30pm at Westhill School and on Wednesday mornings between 10am-12pm at Southmead School. Should you have health concerns or are worried about your children outside of the above baby clinic times, one of our team is always available to speak to you by telephone between 9am-5pm on weekdays.

We additionally provide a postnatal group for first time parents to attend when their babies are about 4-8 weeks old. This is a four-week course that takes place on a monthly basis, covering topics such as an introduction to baby massage, weaning, baby ailments, becoming a parent and general safety and first aid. This is open to parents who are covered by the Tudor Lodge Health Visiting Team.

As well as supporting parents with new babies (including post-natal depression), we are specialists in developmental screening, i.e. ensuring that children are developing age appropriately. You will be invited to bring your baby in to see us at around 8 months for a health review, though you can also request 2-year and 3½ year reviews.

At the age of 5 we hand the health of your child over to the school nursing teams.

To contact the Tudor Lodge Health Visiting team, please call our Duty Line on 020 8788 1525.

WeightWatchers

Weight Watchers has changed so do you want to ‘Discover’ a new way to lose weight?
Find out how by joining our friendly meeting at the Aspire Centre on Wednesdays from 6pm to 7pm

We have developed a wonderful, simpler new programme, called ‘Discover’. Members will receive a personal colour-coded weight loss file and lots of information and support on how to attain and maintain their personal weight loss goals. Members of Weight Watchers will learn how to feel fuller for longer, which will help to avoid ‘snacking’. We also set intermediate weight loss goals, which helps with motivation and success.
You can also save money by purchasing our Monthly Pass vouchers at the meeting (25%off the weekly meeting fee). The vouchers need to be activated on the Weight Watchers website. You also then have access to the great ESource, which is an online resource full of useful information and support.

What happens at the meeting?
Following your confidential weighing, we have a friendly and welcoming group discussion offering support and advice.

Come and ‘Discover’ a new you with the Discover Plan.

Weightwatchers members can also get a discounted membership of the Aspire Centre

MEND

What is the MEND Programme?

MEND - Mind, Exercise, Nutrition... Do It!
The MEND Programme is a fun course for families with children aged 7 to 13 whose weight is above the healthy range for their age and height. It runs twice a week after school in two-hour sessions over 10 weeks at the Aspire Centre

The Programme helps children and families manage their weight better and lead healthier lives. It was developed by child health experts and research shows it really works. With the support of their parents or carers, children learn how to improve their health, fitness and the way they feel about their bodies.
If your family joins a MEND Programme, we will teach you about nutrition and how to eat a balanced diet. We’ll also help you learn how to be more active, and show you some clever mind tricks to help you keep up your motivation. We will help you make changes gradually so you can stick to your new healthy lifestyle and show you skills to change your attitudes towards food and exercise so you can feel fitter, healthier and happier – for good.
The 20 MEND Programme sessions include an hour’s interactive workshop for children and parents, and an hour’s exercise for the children whilst the parents have an adult discussion. Measurements are taken before and after the Programme and there is follow-up contact including newsletters, reunion events and telephone support.

The Programme is FREE to families. If you would like your child to join a MEND programme contact Lucy Howcroft at Wandsworth Sports Development on 0208 871 8391 email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

NCT

The National Childbirth Trust (NCT) is the UK’s leading charity for parents. Every year we support thousands of people through the incredible life changing experience of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood.

The Wimbledon and Wandsworth Branch of the NCT uses the Aspire Centre as a venue for antenatal classes.

The Aspire is well equipped, comfortable, safe and friendly – much like we hope the birth atmosphere will be. One of our teachers even attended the birth of a baby in the Aspire Centre’s car park last year by coincidence!

We offer traditional couples classes, daytime, women only and intensive courses to name a few. Our overall goal in class is to provide support and evidence-based information so that parents are aware of all of their choices as well as prepare parents for the physicality of labour.

If you would like more information about attending an antenatal class, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it (including your name, address, telephone number and due date).

Further information can be found on www.nct.org.uk.

We wish you a great pregnancy!

Exercise Referral Scheme

Exercise Referral Scheme

The aim of the scheme is simple!  More physical activity, whether it be walking, dancing or DIY will improve your health. The Exercise Referral Scheme provides a wealth of advice and support to encourage more people to take regular exercise.

The special referral scheme at The Aspire is available to people who have been referred by a GP, Nurse, Midwife, Health Visitor or Physiotherapist as being suitable for developing their fitness/activity levels and general well being through regular exercise.

All referrals qualify for a personalised 12 weeks exercise programme, developed by our fully qualified friendly Fitness Instructor.

After the 12 week period all referrals qualify for discounted Aspire membership. To find out more information speak to your GP or visit The Aspire

What is the exercise referral scheme?
It's a 12 week programme available at The Aspire on Tuesday’s 1.30pm – 3.00pm or at other selected Wandsworth Leisure centres. You will benefit from one to one advice from one of our exercise specialists and a tailor-made fitness programme.

Over the 12 week period you may attend supervised exercise sessions. You can attend as often as you like during the 12 week period. You are entitled to a discounted rate for 12 weeks (£3.25 per gym session).

How does it work?
Ask your GP or nurse to refer you onto the scheme. Once we receive your referral you will be given an appointment at the Aspire Centre or other Wandsworth centres.

What are the benefits?
There is no doubt that changes in how active you are and what you do, including regular exercise, help you to feel better, be more positive and reduce the risk of ill health later on.
Previous patients have commented on 'feeling more lively', 'losing weight', 'firming/toning up', 'reduced stress', 'helped me  to sleep better' and 'gave me more energy

This programme could be the start of a new you.

What if I've never done any exercise like this before?
That doesn't matter, what is important that you've decided to start now. Your GP and the Aspire staff will encourage you and provide you with guidance and support in helping you to get going.
The sooner you start, the sooner you will start to feel the benefits.

What happens next?
Following your GP appointment, your doctor refers you to your preferred facility where an instructor will contact you to make an appointment for your start date.

Our instructor will show you how to use all of the equipment and will remain with you to supervise all of the GP Referral sessions. Your instructor will also guide you through the completion of your exercise card.

What do I wear?
There is no need for expensive or fashionable clothing. For pool based activities all you need is a suitable bathing costume and a towel. For the fitness suite you will need comfortable clothing, preferably a t-shirt, joggers or shorts, socks, clean indoor trainers and a towel.

What happens after the 12 week course?
After you have completed your 12 week course you will go back to your doctor to discuss the benefits of the exercise programme. If you are feeling better you will then be able to continue on a normal programme of exercise to suit your needs. You can return to the facility of your choice where the staff will continue to encourage you with your goals.
