This course is a practical applied learning course. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on typical work place situations with a fashion and textiles focus. AS English Literature focuses on an area of study called 'The Struggle for Modern Identity.' Candidates will study three set texts in detail and three texts as wider reading. These texts will cover prose, poetry and plays.
The AS has two units: Unit 1: Texts in Context This unit assesses the candidate's poetry, set text and wider reading. There are two questions and the unit is worth 60% of the total AS. Unit 2: Creative Study This unit assesses the prose and drama set texts. Candidates produce a coursework folder containing two pieces of writing, one a critical essay on the texts and the other a more creative piece of writing. The total coursework folder needs to be between 2,000 and 2,500 words. This unit is worth 40% of the total AS. |

FM1 - Exam Topics covered include British and American Cinema (this year we have covered 'The Departed,' 'Dirty Pretty Things' and 'The Godfather' among many others) and Producers and Audiences.
FM2 - Coursework Students must write 1,500 words on an extract from a film of their choice and then a creative piece (moving image or a digital storyboard) in a small group focusing on camera angles, mis-en-scene and sound. Students will watch film but will also be expected to incorporate theory and production factors in their analysis.
