WWI Trenches Project

World War One Trenches Project.

As part of the Year 9 Christmas holiday homework a number of students chose to make models of First World War trenches. The History department and teachers across the Academy have been amazed by the quality of the models which have demonstrated empathy for the conditions of trench warfare as well as outstanding independent learning. Students have been remarkably creative using a variety of materials such as concrete, Lego, Styrofoam, matchsticks and fake blood. A selection of the models are now on display in the trophy cabinet on the ground floor of the new Gateway building. Students from across the Academy will have the opportunity to see the battlefields of the First World War, including a visit to British and German trenches, on the history trip to Belgium in March.
