Welcome message from the Headteachers
Year Seven anti-bullying conference day

Dear Parents, Friends and Visitors.

It is with the utmost pride that we welcome you to Southfields Community College.

At Southfields we are achievement focused in all aspects of college life. We are in the top percentile of schools nationally for contextual value-added results. We have a positive ethos with an emphasis on teaching and learning. Our curriculum is wide and varied and provides young people with remarkable opportunities to study, develop their skills and, more importantly, enjoy learning. We offer a wide range of courses. Of course, we offer the traditional academic subjects, but in addition to this we offer vocational and work-related courses that can prepare and equip our students with the knowledge, skills and abilities for their chosen careers.

We have a flourishing Sixth Form which offers a gateway to university, apprenticeships or employment / training.
In 2008, 89% of our students achieved 5+A*-C and 99% A* - G in Year 11. At AS and A2 Levels we consistently achieve 100% pass rates. No student leaves this college without qualifications.  Over 100 of our Sixth Formers left this year to go to the Country's top universities.

Her Majesty’s Inspectors in January 2007 graded the school as ‘Outstanding’ in all areas of the Ofsted framework. It particularly praised the outstanding leadership, the excellent curriculum offer and outstanding teaching and learning.
We have a number of initiatives at the college which continue to help raise the standards of achievement of our students. We constantly review and reflect on these to strive for even greater achievements for our students.
As a Specialist College for Applied Learning, Sport and Geography we are developing cross-curricular links which are motivational for our students and which promote pathways for career opportunities. We have a number of projects in Sport, Geography and ICT with our cluster of primary schools.

Aspire @ Southfields is the community arm of the college and we continue to work closely with our community of primary schools, secondary schools and specialist schools alongside adult and community learning to engage everyone in lifelong learning and an active lifestyle.
We have gained an Artsmark award for our excellence in Art & Design, Dance, Drama and Music and a National Healthy Schools Award for our excellent catering provision for our students.
As an employer based initial teacher training provider we continue to train graduates from industry, and PGCE students, many of whom we employ leading us to be in the enviable position of being fully staffed in every curriculum area.
We work in close collaboration with the Wandsworth City Learning Centre which is on site to give all stake holders, especially our students, opportunities through ICT.
We believe in a true partnership between all stake holders – teachers, support staff, students, parents, governors and the wider community – to support what we want to achieve: high quality teaching and learning with high expectations of the standards of behaviour.
Our aim is for our students to be happy in their learning and become citizens who ultimately, in whichever path they choose to take, are successful in their lives.
We hope you will visit the college and enjoy meeting and talking to the staff and students. You will be given a warm welcome.

We are proud to be the Headteachers of Southfields Community College.

Yours sincerely,

Jacqueline Valin
