Children's Safety on the Internet

The Internet is a valuable tool for your children's learning and we would not want to discourage them from using it, however we understand the risks that are prevalent in the digital world.  At Southfields Community College we are committed not only to ensuring your child's safety in the actual world but also in the digital world.  Therefore we are committed to their safety whilst using the Internet.

The College's Safeguarding Online Policy is available to download here.

What can I do to help?

Here are some simple steps that you can take to help protect your child from accessing inappropriate websites:
  • if it is possible locate the computer with internet access in a shared room within your home.  This will help you to keep an eye on what your child is doing on the internet
  • many computer operating systems allow you to set up usernames.  This will allow you to use the built in tools that come with the operating system to control internet access and content
  • filtering software can be purchased to filter out unsuitable web sites
  • if you see your child accessing an inappropriate site discuss with them why it is inappropriate
